What is SQF Food Safety?

What is SQF Food Safety Standard?

The SQF standard is a universally acknowledged food safety standard. Fulfilling the needs of farmers, suppliers, and distributors across the food industry through its internationally recognised framework. This system places significant emphasis on the systematic application of HACCP principles to manage food safety risks effectively. During 2021, the latest edition of the standard was launched which comprises of nine distinct codes.

SQFI’s vision is “To be the single most trusted source for global food safety and quality certification”. This is reflected in the rigorous process companies must go through to ensure their practices meet the requirements of the standard. However this process maintains the worldwide reputation of the standard, as customers and companies alike trust the system to produce the safest possible results.

On the 23rd of March 2021, GFSI announced a comprehensive re-structure by introducing a coalition aimed to propel the improvement of food safety systems. Comprising of 44 members this coalition is constructed of prominent household names including McDonald’s, Nestle, Amazon, Starbucks, Unilever, Walmart, and PepsiCo. These members oversee the evolution of the SQF Food Safety Standard ensuring its unwavering effectiveness. These members voluntarily invest in the advances of food safety systems to help the 600 million people (according to the World Health Organisation) who fall ill every year after eating contaminated food.

The GFSI builds its standards through a consensus of experts and members based upon internationally recognised standards such as ISO. Through this consumers, suppliers, and distributors can be sure the standards set by GFSI are based off industry experts, including when they updated the SQF food safety standard.
